Jean Paul Welcomes Acupuncturist Rose Dolan

Jean Paul Spa and Salons would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest team member. Rose Dolan will begin Monday, November 29th as a certified acupuncturist. Rose will be scheduling appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Q&A With Acupuncturist Rose Dolan

• What made you want to do acupuncture?

I grew up in a small town in Albany County where exposure to alternative medicine was limited. The solution to any health problem usually included medication or surgery without any real options. As I got older the importance of a healthy lifestyle became more apparent through the study of the human body and my work done in health facilities. I had the information but didn't achieve much success with my own health. An excessive lifestyle (work, junk food, stress) had such an impact on my mental and physical health that I began searching for a change. I was depressed, exhausted and stuck in a rut.

I looked to acupuncture to try to win my life and my happiness back. My first treatment led to five and a true realization of what was going on with my body. I finally felt good enough to realize how bad everything was to begin with. I can't think of a better way of spending my life than to help others achieve their personal best.

• Do acupuncture needles hurt?

Most people barely feel a thing when the needles are inserted. Some people feel a slight pinch but other people don't even realize the needles are in. Acupuncture needles are very thin in comparison to the hypodermic needles used to give injections. They also have a very blunt point in comparison to acupuncture needles. To put it into perspective, 40 acupuncture needles can fit into one standard hypodermic needle.

• Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is very safe. The average liability coverage for an acupuncturist is about $600 a year while the average primary care physician pays about $12,000 a year.

Acupuncture needles are extremely safe because they are pre-sterilized, individually packaged and disposable. Every practitioner gets extensive training in anatomy so as to avoid accidentally inserting a needle into a place that could cause injury.

• Do I have to believe in it for it to work?

Acupuncture works whether you believe in it or not. Good results are seen in the majority of cases.

• How often do I need to come in for treatment?

Typically acupuncture treatments are given once a week. If the condition is acute and painful, treatments may be given 2-3 times per week until the condition is under control. The exact duration of treatment depends on your condition and can be determined during your consultation.

Jean Paul Spa and Salons - Haitian earthquake relief

For years, Jean Paul Day Spa and Hair Salons have held their annual company Holiday appreciation party. Typically, the entire staff attend the party, which is held in late January or February, after the Holiday rush. It's an event greatly appreciated and anticipated at this mid-winter time.

This year however, in the midst of party planning, the staff has opted for something different. It's not for lack of interest (quite the contrary!) and it's not the economy - it's an idea that came to Jean Claude from the staff. The staff chose to forgo the party and instead use the funds to help Earthquake victims in Haiti .

Jean Claude was moved that some of his staff came up with such a great idea and after speaking with everyone realized their commitment was unwavering. "I am truly touched to have a company family with hearts so big. It speaks volumes of how our people really make the Spa and Salons, and more importantly are moved to contribute to greater needs."

The party typically runs about $5000 and this year all of the funds will be donated to The Red Cross for Food, Medical Supplies and Shelter.
